Welcome to Saanenland
The beautiful Bauten-style chalets are one of the hallmarks of the Saanenland. Rich ornamentation, flower decorations on the balconies in summer. Since the 1960s, legislation has attached great importance to retaining the typical character of the villages. Today the Saanenland people construct the majority of the new chalets in red brick, but then clad them with timber. That is what gives the villages such a warm and homely feel. Even if they don't all conform to the original "Saanenhaus" template, they nevertheless remain true to the broader approach to chalet-building.
